The Prison Ministry’s mission is to minister to inmates, ex-inmates, victims, and their families and promote Biblical standards by teaching and preaching the word of God. Through Prison Ministry an attempt is made to meet the total needs of inmates. Volunteers of Prison Ministry help chaplains minister to inmates through teaching, preaching, programs and seminars.
- Mentoring Program: The Angel Tree Program, one of our Prison Ministry mentoring programs, has been a big success for many years. Its purpose is to bless the children of inmates by giving them gifts on Christmas Day. We serve an average of 30 children each year. The New Sunlight Church family has been very supportive of this program.
- In Prison Bible-based Seminars: Seminars are occasionally conducted at the Federal Prison in Oakdale, Louisiana and Allen Correctional Center in Kinder, Louisiana. Going for the Gold is the most popular seminar. This seminar focuses on preparing the inmates for all aspects of life after prison. H.O.P.E. Helping Ourselves Prepare for Employment is another popular seminar and focuses only on inmates getting employed after release. As volunteers, our vision is to see a change in inmates’ lives not only while they are in prison, but also after they are released. We believe that vision can be accomplished through God’s Word and His Faith. The inmates may have made mistakes and used bad judgment, never the less, they are still deserving of our love and respect. John 8: 7 reads, "So when they continued asking HIM, HE lifted himself up himself, and said unto them, HE that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” (KJV)
- Service as Volunteers: Bible study is conducted at Calcasieu Correctional Center and the Federal Prison. Bible lessons are taught at Calcasieu Correctional Center monthly. The need for more workers in the Prison Ministry is great. Is it right for you? Inquire with the leaders to learn more.
